Many of my students see little value in grammar, don�t
really know much about it and don�t want to, fear it as something that is too
hard to understand or just plain resist it because it has no interest to
them. Among resistors are people working in high tech jobs such as software
development and networking, including the Internet in various capacities. So,
all you �techies� and everyone else for that matter, consider the following:
Sets of agreed upon rules governing the information flow
within a communications infrastructure, often known as �data link control.�
Protocols control format, timing, error essential correction and running
order. They are essential for a device to be able to interpret incoming
information. Suites of protocols are often used in networks, with each
protocol responsible for one part of a communications function.
Sets of agreed upon rules governing the information flow

communication. Grammar controls writing processes, word and paragraph usage,
clarity and style, sentence parts and patterns and punctuation. Grammar is
essential for people to effectively transmit and receive written and
verbal communication.
One of my �techie� students, when asked about the
importance of protocols to the World Wide Web, responded that the web wouldn�t
work without protocols and if protocols are violated, systems break down.
I would suggest that without the proper use of grammar,
written and verbal communication looses its effectiveness, creates confusion
and conflict and ultimately leads to breakdowns of one kind or another, many
with very costly consequences to people and organizations.
