At a so-called “star-studded” gala at Radio City Music Hall
yesterday (Thursday, July 8), the John Kerry presidential campaign was
treated to nine million dollars in new campaign funds, given by some of
the “VIP’s” among the Hollywood and music industry crowd. This
big fund-raising effort was not of the ordinary variety, however. It included
some very nasty and venomous and downright erroneous attacks on our President.
The purpose of this e-mail is to inform you of these goings-on and to
suggest some action on your part, if you support our gallant President.
“This guy’s as bright as an egg timer,” actor Chevy Chase quipped,
ridiculing President Bush for his southern drawl and his tendency to sometimes
misuse the English language. Referring to presidential hobbies, Chase
noted, “Clinton plays the sax, John Kerry plays the guitar, and President
Bush is a liar,” he said matter-of-factly, drawing laughs and cheers
from the Hollywood crowd.
Actress Meryl Streep welcomed the new team of Kerry and Edwards by referring
to them as “President Kerry and Vice President Edwards.” Disrespectful
and presumptuous, don’t you think?
Actress Jessica Lange labeled the Bush administration, “a self-serving
regime of deceit, hypocrisy and belligerence.” Belligerence against
evil tyrants and terrorists, yes. Correct, Ms. Lange, but not in the way
you think.
Comedienne Whoopi Goldberg greeted Kerry and his wife, Teresa Heinz Kerry,
and told the couple that Hollywood would do whatever it took to get them
into the White House. Well, my hope and prayer is that the rest of the
country, all the sane portions, will greatly disappoint Ms. Goldberg.
Singer John Mellencamp sang a song he had written for the occasion that
called President Bush “a cheap thug” and “a liar.”
All one has to do in order to discount this idiotic drivel is to call
to mind some of Mr. Mellencamp himself’s stunts and troubles with the
law in the past.
Other noted Hollywood and/or musical celebrities in attendance, who gave
money to the Kerry campaign and took pot-shots at President Bush include
Paul Newman, Bette Midler, James Taylor, Elton John, Sarah Jessica Parker,
Jon Bon Jovi, Michael Moore, John Leguizamo, John Fogerty, Mary J. Blige.
Incidentally, Paul Newman, formerly a favorite of many sane-thinking movie-goers,
referred to the Bush administration’s policies as “criminal.”
Whatever respect I once had for Mr. Newman has certainly evaporated.
So what was John Kerry’s reaction to these hate-filled attacks against
America’s courageous Commander-in-chief? Well, you may be surprised. He
said these Hollywood celebrities and singers represented the “heart
and soul of America.” Yes, he said it. If that’s true, friends, America
is in great trouble. I can think of, oh, say about 300 million other folks
who I would consider as the “heart and soul of America” before
I’d think of this crowd. Further, John Kerry observed, “We need somebody
in the White House who shares the real values of the American people.”
Oh, I see. The Hollywood crowd and the music industry has the “real
values” of the American people at heart? That’s a surprise to me
and probably to you as well. It’s actually another load of bologna from
Mr. Kerry which we are seeing with more and more regularity. (Note: each
of the actors/actresses or musicians named have contributed to the situation
in our nation today where vulgar and profane speech and actions are becoming
more and more acceptable. Thank you, Hollywood). Real values?
No, I say the “real” American values belong to George W. Bush,
who is not afraid to mention the name of Jesus Christ in public. I say
these real values belong to a President who is not afraid to confront
the enemies of the cross, both inside and outside of our borders. I say
the real values have been in the White House for three and a half years
now (unlike the eight years before that) and that we need to keep those
same values there by re-electing President Bush.
Won’t you join me in determining never again to buy or go to see a Meryl
Streep movie or a Paul Newman movie or a Chevy Chase movie or a Jessica
Lange movie again? Won’t you join me in refusing to purchase anymore music
of Elton John or James Taylor or John Mellencamp or Bette Midler, etc.?
Yes, I know that these folks (like everyone else in America too) have
the right to say and think whatever they feel in a free society and in
the land of liberty (as long as it doesn’t cross the line into the traitorous,
which some may have). But, it’s also true that you and I also have the
right to buy whatever music and whatever motion pictures we choose to
buy. So let’s agree to not choose anything by this crowd, in order to
let them know what we think of their liberal and cowardly and sick politics.
And let’s give a big thumb’s down to Mr. Kerry and his idea of “real
values.” The real values of America do not reside in Hollywood or
in the music industry. Those are the values of the ruler of this world
(2 Cor. 4:4). The real values of America are to be found in the Word of
God.
