Story – Once Again Liberal Negativity Sours Goodness

Sen. Robert Byrd,
D-W.Va., blasted President George W. Bush on the floor of the U.S. Senate
for landing on the USS Abraham Lincoln to give a speech on the successes
of the war in Iraq.
“I am loath
to think of an aircraft carrier being used as an advertising backdrop
for a presidential political slogan, and yet that is what I saw,” Byrd
told his colleagues, calling the event “flamboyant showmanship.”
Although I am a Vietnam
Veteran, I believe I have no business speaking for active or other veteran
military personnel, so I will speak for myself. As I observed the event
Byrd demeans and politicizes I was blessed with a vicarious experience.
I experienced pride in having served my country in wartime. As I watched
President Bush (via TV of course) personally interact with sailors and
heard his words of encouragement, appreciation and praise, I nearly cried.
I was happy that those sailors and every member of the Armed Forces could
know that this president came to them, to their place, with open arms
and heart welcoming them home and thanking them for their service…and
he welcomed me home and he thanked me.
As for Byrd, I pity
the man. I pity him for having so much hatred, envy and bitterness toward
the president that he would not only demean and discount him for being
an honorable man and inspiring leader, but demean and discount me, and
as far as I’m concerned, every “trooper” who now serves or who
has served.
Ex-clansman Byrd is
not alone among his Democrat brethren who seem incapable of doing little
more than to attack, demean, discount and destroy. The negative energy
flowing from these people is palpable.
President Bush emanates
positive energy and it was that energy that lifted my spirits and, finally,
welcomed me home.
