Council Unable to Support Troops

Blue Heron Favored Over Troops

Editorial Comment: It is good of Michael Behar to introduce a support the
troops resolution, but after watching the way Seattle council members
wiggle around a forthright statement of support, I think whatever
they come up with will be an insult to the men and women of the
military. Perhaps its best if they stop the wiggling and just be what they
are…that would be at least somewhat honest, wouldn’t it? – Ron Siddell, Webmaster

Seattle City Council Balks at Support Resolution

All Patriotic
Seattleites are urged to e-mail or call their City Council members and urge
them to pass the “Seattle Supports Our Troops” resolution.  So far the
council has resisted taking this step. On March 17th the council found the
time to honor the Great Blue Heron (I am not kidding!) they can certainly
find the time and fortitude to honor the brave men and women of our armed
services. You can read a sample of my correspondence with the City Council
at

Please copy and e-mail the following letter to your council members. For
contact information go to:

Dear Council member,

So many young men and women from our community have been called upon to
defend our country that not a neighborhood of this city remains untouched.

I urge you to bring before the City Council for consideration the following

resolution in support of our men and women in the armed forces.

I eagerly await your response,

Sincerely,

WHEREAS, The President of the United States has activated and deployed
numerous men and women of the Armed Forces from Seattle to assignments and

missions related to the ongoing global war on terror and the current crisis

in Iraq; and,

WHEREAS, The citizens of Seattle have achieved world wide renown for their

zeal and patriotism in answering their nation’s call to duty whenever the

cause of Freedom and Justice is threatened by foreign tyrants and
aggressors; and,

WHEREAS, The uniformed men and women of our community are once again called

upon to offer their utmost devotion in the defense of their country and to
bring peace to a troubled corner of the Earth.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF SEATTLE AS FOLLOWS:

Section 1: It wholeheartedly supports and appreciates the brave men and
women of Seattle serving in the United States Military, and wishes them
Godspeed in their dangerous missions and a safe return from harm’s way.

Section 2: This Resolution shall take effect upon its passage & approval
