Hi
Ron —

Thanks for the data on Gen102.  I am sure that Lannie will see
that these suggestions are sent forward to Phoenix for consideration
when the module is revised.  Since I have not taught the course,
I have nothing to add to the specifics.  I can respond to a
couple of questions that were raised.

The
switch from number of pages to number of words was made, throughout
UOP, to avoid problems of 16 point type, 3″ margins, and other
means by which our students (and probably students in general) fulfill
the “letter of the law” while avoiding completely its
“spirit.”  By assigning in terms of number of
words, rather than pages, students will have a better idea how long
the assignment is actually to be.

Little,
Brown is the final arbiter on formatting, etc.  Whether it is APA
or MLA is up to the instructor.

The
idea of creating resource “pools” is an excellent one, and
will become increasingly useful as we move to unimodules.  I have
been advocating doing this at both a campus and corporate level for
some time now.  The experiences at other campuses, however, is
that no one uses it, after the first month or two.  Maybe we can
show the rest of the University, once again, how much more together we
are in Washington.  There is, of course, the question of where to
store these resources so that they are easily accessible.  Have
any ideas?

The
other issues raised and practices discussed all look good, but are
beyond my area of knowledge, much less expertise.

Thanks
for getting this off to a good start.
