OSOT
Members at USS Lincoln Homecoming
Report by Terry Harder
Most of OSOT arrived
before I did at 5:00 am, Norma and Bill. Marion, an avid supporter arrived
before them @ 3:30AM. We all went down to the main Gate for a while at
about 8:00 with our signs. We then came back to the dock area by the restaurant
to see the Lincoln come in at 8:30. We held the big sign at the end of
the dock hoping they could see it. We were way to far away.
We then took a short break and at about 10:00 we went to the main gate
with the big banner and waited for the Sailors and families to come out.
We cheered for all of them until 12:30 and went to meet the Captain of
the Lincoln Kendall Card. Well that hit a snag due to an unattended package.
They locked the main gate down an he couldn’t meet us there. After Norma
did some calling around we met Capt. Card at the small gate and presented
him with the Banner with many signatures for his Ship. What a Office and
gentleman, friendly warm personality with a slight southern drawl. He
talked a little and excused himself to join family.
We joked with him
about his next deployment and he remarked, he couldn’t wait to get back
aboard because he had the greatest job in the world and loved it.
