Two “On
the Ground” Reports on “The Passion”
My wife and I had bought tickets a week prior to seeing the movie, we
had heard from many others how great it was. Sunday, we drove to the theater
at 2:30 (afternoon, one hour ahead of time) the movie started at 3:30.
The theater was already getting packed with people.
I was in no way prepared for what I was about to see on the screen (I
am a true Bible believing Christian). I have read (many times) the story
about Jesus being crucified on the cross, as it is written in my Bible.
Ten minutes into the movie I could hear people around me crying, and
I found myself trying to hold back my tears (this did not work).
The sounds of Jesus (Jim, the actor) being beaten and the nails being
driven into the hands of Jesus (Jim, the actor) really got to me. This
was being done for my/our sins once and for all time.
After the movie my wife and myself walked out the theater and got into
our car and drove home. I did not talk at all on the drive home, at home
I did not talk or turn on the TV for about 4 hours. During this time,
All I could say (in my mind) was THANK YOU, Jesus, THANK YOU, Jesus, THANK
YOU, Jesus.
I praise God for Mel Gibson’s “THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST”.
I pray that our Heavenly Father will bless Mel and everyone involved in
the movie, Mightily. This movie is the best I have ever seen, and I know
it will be around for ever.

Hi Ron,
We went to see “The Passion” on Thursday. It was perhaps the
best movie I have ever seen; not only because of the story content but
the way it was presented. Everything in the movie is directly from the
Bible. It was perhaps not quite as gruesome as what the Bible states;
Jesus was beaten so severely that you could not recognize him as a human
being” (paraphrasing) and there were moments where you were taken
back in time which gave you a break. Forget your distaste for movie theaters,
Ron, and go and see it! You will not regret it. At the end of the movie,
I was literally speechless….we all just sat in our seats; no one stirred;
the only thing you could hear were sobs and the blowing of noses. When
things settle down at the theaters, I think we will be going to see it
again. Mom wants to go and see it too so, hopefully, we can have her come
with us.

Hello All,
Ashes still on my
forehead from Ash Wednesday Mass, I arrived at 11:15AM for a noon showing
of “The Passion of the Christ”( I am a traditional Catholic
like Mel ).
I walked into the theatre, went to the Fandango machine, and after 3 frustrating
attempts to get the ticket I pre-purchased, I proceed to the show.
“Wow! Look at all the people already! ” I told myself, “#8
theatre was already packed! This is Wednesday and the place is as full
as an original showing of Star Wars on Friday night! No, in fact even
more packed!”
Well, I managed to find a seat and many more people packed in until there
were no more seats. Wouldn’t you know it the most anticipated film of
the year and the theatre had trouble with the projector!
It was good news though, they fixed the projector and it started on time
so we were all saved from the trashy previews, certainly no loss there.
From the opening scene the movie draws you in like a moth to a flame,
you can’t take your eyes off of the screen ( I don’t think I even blinked).
So very powerful and moving, it pales Braveheart by comparison.
I rarely cry, certainly not in public, but like many in the audience,
I wiped my welled up eyes as I watched. The ending is powerful so I won’t
ruin it by telling you since most of you haven’t seen it. For those that
don’t know the Gospel, when you see the passion, you will know why it
is not anti-Semitic.
I think the only thing I can fault is the subtitles, they are for the
general public, some of the translations are made more simple for clarity
and general understanding. Mel added his own little scenes and small talk
as twists, so it is not as perfect as the true Gospels, but it was not
intended to be so.
I left emotionally drained and with a vision of the Scourging at the Pillar
I will never forget. My daily Rosary will certainly be more heartfelt!
This is a must see no matter if you are Christian of not. A magnificent
film!
